The Program Manager of Advanced Grid Technologies over Distribution Asset Management will oversee a small, agile team working alongside other enterprise departments and business units to develop and execute upon data driven asset management strategies across the utility distribution system. In addition to overseeing the utilities work and asset management system, the program will be responsible for cataloging and maintaining asset information and depreciation schedules, creating and facilitating maintenance schedules by partnering with other business units, leading matrixed teams to execute upon asset management related projects and initiatives, and reporting diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analysis on regular and ad hoc intervals

Work Schedule:

  • This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin.
  • Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends.
  • Shifts may change according to departmental needs.
  • Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.

Fair Labor Standards Act:

This position is considered FLSA Exempt. Exempt employees are salaried and, except as provided, are not eligible for overtime compensation.

Travel:

If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

$47.51 - $61.76 per hour

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing a utility work and asset management system
  • Experience in engineering risk assessments and impact studies
  • Experience setting up asset maintenance scheduling programs
  • Experience developing ROI and CBA for asset upgrade and maintenance investments
  • Experience overseeing the operation of one or more enterprise system applications, including patches, upgrades, change management and leading technical project teams
  • Experience in financial and electric utility data analytics including the creation of assert amortization schedules, asset depreciation tables, assessment of electric utility reliability metrics, and asset performance metrics
  • Experience in distribution maintenance process improvements and change management initiatives
  • Experience in distribution system design.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or the ability to become a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas within one year of employment.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Leads planning activities to develop short- and long-term strategic plans, roadmaps, and objectives for advanced technologies and programs. Creates and manages operational budgets for short and long term technology projects and contracts. Leads cross functional teams to achieve technology initiatives. Manages existing and future contracts with vendors. Leads market research activities to identify market trends in technologies and programs. Produces periodic metrics to measure and improve: systems, projects, vendors, and service provider performance. Manages assigned matrix resources. Leverages functionality to identify operational efficiencies to improve customer satisfaction and reduce operational costs. Produces business cases, including cost versus benefit analysis and Request for Proposal (RFP's) to support related technologies and initiatives and programs. Facilitates and leads periodic executive round table and steering committees on related technologies and programs. Facilitates internal communication, education, and training to staff, and internal and external stakeholders on technologies and programs.

  • Knowledge of electric utility operations: generation, transmission, distribution, or other related fields
