The City of Fort Worth Park and Recreation Department has a part-time Recreation Assistant job available for the After School Program at the Diamond Hill Community Center. The After School Program provides a great opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children ages 5 - 13 through character development, literacy programs, arts and crafts, team building and recreational activities. You will be responsible for assisting in coordinating and conducting programs and activities at a community center while being assigned to a specific group and ensure the well-being of the children.

This position will work up to 19 hours a week.

The work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday from 2:00PM - 6:00PM. This position does not include benefits.

Recreation Assistant job duties include the following:

  • Supervise and participate with the children during the After School Program
  • Promote, coordinate, and develop structured activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports and other recreational activities and events
  • Develop and implement lesson plans
  • Assist with snack distribution, serving, and clean-up
  • Assist with field trips and community programs
  • Submit attendance records and other reports as requested
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area at all times
  • Maintain discipline, group control, and practice safety
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum job requirements include:

  • Must be age 18 or older (age 17 with a high school diploma)
  • High Scholl Diploma or GED
  • At least six months experience working with children ages 5 - 13 years old, leading activities in a recreational and/or educational environment (including volunteer, internship, and observation through college coursework)

Preferred experience includes:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a CPR, First Aid, and AED certification during the first six months of employment
  • Experience performing custodial duties
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Possess good time management skills
